Hello.
Question: Is there a method to be able to control what WtPart is to be associated to CAD based on what Context the CAD Model is to be Checked Into? Or more generally that the Workspace is Associated to?
Enhancement Needed for a Context Level Preference Manager Preference to chose what Default Part Type is to associate with CAD.
PTC has appeared to have a large gap in Auto-Associate Functionality for a long time for customers that have multiple groups in Windchill.
Current:
Type and Attribute Manager allows for CAD Document to Set: "The Default Type of Part to Create" which is great with smaller customers that want to use a single WtPart associated to their CAD Models but is for the Organization.
Use Case: (Data stored in Separate Context in Single Organization)
1. Existing Division has 6 WtPart Subtypes being used, with multiple Attributes specific to that division. They have Part Structure Override Attribute Name set to a Subtype call WtPartComponent with 10 Attributes (Defined List, Many Required)
2. New Divisions being On-boarded or Migrated into Windchill. They also would like to create BOM Structures but would like to start with a more basic WtPart.
PTC Solutions: ???
PTC would recommend creating CAD Part Sub Types. This does not seem to be logical or easy to do for existing data. All the Data is the Same CAD Software, Same States, Same Revision Scheme. (Even New Sites giving them a Subtype - Just for this functionality - And can a CAD Sub Type be made automatically based on the Context associated to the Workspace.)
Historically PTC would handle with Business Process. Teach users to Make the Windchill Part First and Auto-Associate the CAD Part from the Windchill GUI. We do have customers that do that. No creating CAD in CAD Tool. That way correct WtPart is Selected or Shown (Via OIR) and also attributes get populated...
Anyone Created A Customization to perform the simpler solution to pick a Default WtPart Type based on Context to Check into? Is there Functionality I am not aware of?
Base User Case: User Creates CAD Model/ Saves/Check Ins and the Correct WtPart for that Context is Auto-Associated.
