We have been testing the update from v10.2 M020 to v10.2 M030 on a cloned and rehosted copy of our production system, and have one last problem to solve with WinDU.  Before the update, WinDU reports no errors or warnings but after the update it reports a block of PrincipalValidator warnings, like the ones described in CS125299 and CS186012.

 

We have loaded the latest patch set M030-CPS09 but that does not fix the problem, so the statement in CS186012 that the problem was corrected in M030-CPS04 appears false.  We have been in discussion with our VAR and have had a support call open with PTC for 3 weeks.  I gather that other customers have the same or similar problems with M030 WinDU.

 

PTC have just declared a Critical Bulletin for CS 222868 and recommend an urgent update to M020-CPS17 or to M030-CPS09, which would be preferable to avoid our users from having to update their WGM installation and discard all their local cache folders twice.  https://support.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/solution.jsp?n=CS222868

 

Unfortunately PTC seem to be equally reluctant to solve the remaining problem with WinDU, which appears to be due to a change in how WinDU in v10.2 M030 checks the validity of Users & Groups in ADS, in particular the way it uses the binding user account credentials and/or the JNDI adapter url.

 

Has anyone else had this problem, and found the solution ?

Hello,

We currently use PDMLink  M050 with WGM for CV5 R19, we made a mapping between CV5 attibutes for mass, volume, surface area and for creation CV5 documents, the values are truncated in the PDMLink workspace only for new CV5 documents after update of PDMLink mapping, Is anyone faced this kind of issue?

So far in my 4 years as admin I have been creating a 1 to 1 relationship between attributes and global attributes.  I just got a request to store, in one document, 40 serial numbers....can I get away with creating a global attribute called serial number and then keep selecting it as I create the separate attributes in the type manager?  What is best practices?

Hey there WC gurus, I've worked in different CAD/CAM packages before that would allow multiple sessions to run without tying up additional licenses. This would allow you to be working on multiple projects at a time. Especially when loading a model, updating or saving takes a while, it's nice to be able to work on a lower end project like updating some hardware or adding some finishing touches.
If there is a way to allow this in CREO 2.0, this would be great.

We use network floating licenses here.

 

I know that if I check out a license, I can run multiple sessions as long as I'm not connected to the network.

Hello everyone AND PTC,

 

The context:

Global numbering scheme for all EPMDocument. Our policy is to automatically allocate a sequential number to any new CAD file created. The EPMDocument get assigned the same number than the cad file without the extension. This is unique across our entire Windchill regardless of the context. Our business process is so that Number (Part number) is generated when creating the CAD. This number is then unique across all other systems such as ERP.

 

That is, if I start creating a new part for a new design in a project, the Number is allocated "forever".

 

When we were with Windchill 9.1, everything worked perfectly fine. We could create new CAD/EPMDoc in project, send them to PDM without the number being changed (users could not change it and the system did not change it all). 

 

We upgraded to 10.1 M040 in June 2014. During testing we noticed that Windchill behaved differently. When an EPMDoc is created in ProjectLink and send to PDM, Windchill allocated a new number. This was obviously not good at. As this was the only issue with the upgrade, we went live as planned expecting our VAR to fix the problem.

After 18 months the problem is still unsolved and the only reply we have is that Windchill behaves as expected and it was a bug in 9.1

 

It does not make anything from a process point of view to change Number as data is moved from container to container when the same Numbering scheme policy is used across the system. In addition, you can imagine the issues this creates when you allocate a partnumber, and later on the system allocate a new one.

This creates overhead as one must remember what was the number so after sending to PDM, we can renumber to the original number. This creates more issues as our policy is so that users cannot play with NUMBER it is locked down. This implies that only admin can renumber.

 

 

Why has PTC change Windchill behaviour . Can someone explain the logic is not allowing an EPMDocument to keep the same number when being sent to PDM. If that functionality never existed, it would be different but it worked fine for 4 years with 9.1 and a few datecode update.

 

Thank you for your feedback and maybe some PTC program can pop in and explain the rational ?. I would love to hear their view on product life cycle.

I am Chris since I was born and changing status (baby, toddler, child, teenage etc...) and even container (changed 3 times countries) my number (first name and first name) never changed.  So why is it now different with Windchill.

Windchill Experts,

All too often I would like to delete something out of Windchill only to find out it has associations to other objects.  For this discussion, I only want to focus on the Content link between WTPart and EPMDocument.  I believe it is stored in EPMDESCRIBELINK table.  Think of this scenario:  "User creates a drawing, associates to WTPart, later descides not to use drawing (or use a different drawing) and it gets disassociated."  However, in this scenario, the EPMDocument (drawing) that we want to delete has links to old iterations of WTParts.  Thus we can't just delete the drawing.

 

I believe that there is not much risk in modifying the database to directly remove these rows from the EPMDESCRIBELINK table.  That will essentially delete the Content links.  You just have to be careful and know what you're doing.  I would not do the same for Owner links (it is stored in a different table in the database anyway).

 

What do you all think about this practice - removing the rows from the EPMDESCRIBELINK table in order to delete out Content links on objects that are otherwise not really editable through the UI?

 

For reference, I have also discovered a very handy WinDU tool in 10.2 M030.  I'm not sure when it first showed up.  It is called "Locate References".  You can enter an ID value of an object and it will search the entire DB for that ID value.  I entered the IDA2A2 of the A.2 version of a WTPart that had a Content link I wanted to delete.  The IDA2A2 value of that version of the WTPart was referenced in these tables:

After getting that picture of where the A.2 version of the WTPart was referenced, I did the same search for the IDA2A2 of the EPMDESCRIBELINK.  Then I was able to see that that specific Content link is only referenced in the EPMDESCRIBLINK table.  So deleting that row (and thus the Content link) from the database won't have an effect on anything else.  Nothing else references this Content link.

In our Windchill installation we have user in Denmark (English), and in France (French). In the Event management in Creo we Danish user gets some times messages in French. We are running with the same database server, and a fileserver in each country.

It is only in the Event management I have seen the problem.

Can I some there in Windchill set the language?

Hi All,

 

My requirement is to add the following constraint to an attribute of type "Real Number" in type and attribute manager

 

This field is required to 5 digits length (including of decimal point) and only keep 2 digits after point.

I have tried using the valid range constraint like - 0.0000 to 999.99. But still the attribute is accepting values like 189.92567.

Please do help me to achieve this.

I am looking for a way to minimize the footprint of our rehosted test & development sites.  Currently the 50 GB DB is exported from Production and imported into test/dev sites.  And then on our Unix server, we use the rsync command to move the application files and vault files (1500 GB) from the production disk to the test/dev disks.  After the rehost is done, we perform "remove unreferenced files" to make sure things are tidy, and any "extra" files moved over from production disk to test/dev disk are deleted.

 

But maybe we only want to work with a 100 GB vault on test/dev sites.  How can we rehost only the latest 1 year of data, for example?

 

Additionally, I thought of doing an rsync on files last modified in the previous 1 year.  But I'm not sure if that is a good idea.  Are there necessary files in the vaults that are older than 1 year?  For example, the workflow templates?  They might be stored in the DB.  But that is just an example of some of the data I'm worried about not copying over if I limit the scope of rsync to only previous 1 year.

Is there any way to search for promotion requests? They will not pull up via a keyword search.

We have things broken into projects, so each folder has its own set of Promo Requests.

I would like to be able to search to make sure none slipped through the cracks without being approved.

 

This is how we manage PDM related ECOs for a particular company, so theoretcally, I'd like to be able to search for *ecoxxxxxx* and have it pull up.

 

any suggestions?

Is there a way to customize the workflows associated with the Creo Model/Drawing Manager?  I am not familiar with this but from what I have seen I don't see anything that shows any customization.  Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Last week I updated my test server from 10.2 m020 csp08 to 10.2 m030 cps09.  After starting Windchill, the java.exe processes are staying constant in Memory size.  They are not releasing memory like they had been.  Is this something new or something broken?

Dear all,

ME provide PCB height limit to Layout. Layout will place EE components and release EMN and EMP for ME to check whether the EE components are over height. Can  Creo 3.0 show the components which are over height limit by comparing height limit drawing and "EMN and EMP"? Thanks!

My company has been historically using Relex/Windchill for Reliability Prediction for years and we have had the licences for MTTR/FMEA etc but nobody ever uses them.  In an effort to make use of these modules, we have decided to try them on one of our latest projects, however I am finding the MTTR module to be useless.  In order to input task times, you have to pull them from a library.  Why can't I define task times right in the maintainability window?  What if I have unique task times for a specific unit? I have to put them into the library and pull them from the library to put them in the task tables.... This is very inefficient and seems so wrong that I can't imagine I'm even doing it correct. 

 

So, I am hoping I AM doing it incorrect and someone can point me to an easier way to do the MTTR task tables.

Windchill 10.1 and AE 6.1 User is trying to compare an xml file within windchill with a revised xml file that was outside of WC. User has attached the revised file to the WC xml notebook. When the user tries to open the attached revised xml, it opens in a browser instead of AE. When the user chooses to open the attached xml by going into "actions, open with, AE" the original xml opens and not the revised attachment. Note: The original xml file in WC opens in AE when user clicks on icon. It appears that WC recognizes AE and launches correctly for all xml documents except for xml attachments. Under the Firefox options menu I have tried to add a generic xml viewer to see if this would resolve the issue. Firefox does allow the add-on. Has anyone else experienced not being able to open xml attachments? How do I get the attachment to open in AE?

when we load our drawing (pdf) into our PLM software, sometimes our customers request a step file.  i noticed that now, you can create the step file, and automatically attach it to the documentation in Windchill. however, if i do a search for a part, i have no way to actually download the file to my local drive, without opening it into creo, then saving it.  is there something i am doing wrong?  can i somehow browse to this part?
