How to activate action automatically upon Save / Check-in in PDMLink ?

As part of an integration project I need to figure out how to update Part Data into an external system by invoking a third part WebService by the time the Part is changed (Save / Check-in) in Windchill-PDMLink.

My main concern is how to activate action to prepare data and invoke the WebService upon Save / Check-in action in Windchill once there is no Workflow / Lifecycle State change in this particular case.

Can someone help me on this subject?

Windchill - Tools\Refresh Workspace

Hi,

Can somobedy explain me what this function is doing?

\Tools\Refresh Workspace

 

 

I was expected the refresh to update the Compare Status or Out of Date in case that somebody update a model in Commonspace.

Am I wrong?

 

Synchonize is the only way to get the Compare Status and Out of Date updated?

From my point when I connect to a workspace or when somebody change status or create a new iteration for a CAD this automatically need to be reflected in the compare status ad out of date of teh file store into my workspace.

Possible Bottlenecking and 100% failure on making viewables

Two questions here. I was reviewing Microsofts best practices for windchill on SQL 2008. I ran the query for a possible bottlenecking scenario and the following came up. Can anyone explain to me if I have a bottle neck anywhere? We pretty much have 2 active users, but a lot of our models are pretty large and sometimes I noticed it takes quite a while to check out or check in objects.

When I check in an object, there are no viewables at all. The WVS Job manager shows 0 successful jobs (on job 36k now). The other user has had about 5-10 sucessful jobs right when we installed windchill but the next  36k jobs all failed. Any ideas on what might be causing this to fail?

 

 

We are using Creo 2.0 with Intralink 10.0

Link Types in Change Process

We are trying to include a task to create an Estimate (probably just a WTDocument) for time/money of implementation in our change request process. What link type should we use to associate the Change Request Estimate (WTDocument) and the Change Request? I don't see any OOTB links that make sense after looking at the definitions of the link types in PTC's documentation. We are not going to associate it as a regular attachment because the estimate requries special access control permissions. Would it be a better idea to customize the Configurable Reference Link? Has anyone else had problems finding valid link types for their associated objects?

How do I change units?

I'm having some trouble changing the units in Creo Direct 2. After searching, I found that pretty much everyone said that all you have to do is go to file > prepare > model properties and then click change next to units, but when I do so I don't get that option.

This is all that I see, and I am at a loss at what to do. Help?

adding Object to WT-Part BOM doesn't work anymore

Hi all,

 

I've got a problem with our WT-Part BOM. When I want to add a additional WT-Part to the BOM the window closes itself so I'm not able to edit the BOM.

 

Failure messages as followed:

 

Popup 1
Fenster der Öffnungsprogramms wurde scheinbar geschlossen
window of startingprogramm seems to be closed

 

-> clicking "OK" 

 

Popup 2
Sie scheinen die Rückruffunktion nicht definiert zu haben, oder sie enthält einen Fehler: pickerAddedPart exception: [object Error]
It seems Callbackfunction is not defined  or it contains a failure: pickerAddedPart exception:[object Error]

 

-> clicking "OK" 

 

If you acitvate protocollfailures in Internetoptions of IE you get this additional popup:

The crazy thing about this is, only one User has this problem...

 

I've allready tried following steps:

 

IE Cache deleted

IE option set back to standard

Java (JRE 6.26) uninstalled

Java (JRE 6.26) installed  (32 + 64bit)

Java update on JRE 6.31 and 6.35

priv9.ser in AppData/LocalLow/.wt deleted

 

all without getting any success...

 

Has anybody an idea for this problem?!

WTPart numbering: autonumber vs. manual?

We are about to start creating WTParts and will be primarily generating them from Creo parts and assemblies. Our item/part numbering system is based on our ERP system, i.e. cad models and cad documents in Windchill use the 10 digit number from ERP as both the filename and number fields (with file extension... 1234.prt).

 

The question I have is how to Number our WTParts. Our consultant is recommending to leave the autonumber function in place and creat a new attribute field in the WTPart for the item/part number (which would then be manually populated with the corresponding ERP number).  I can come up with several reasons I do not like this approach, and very few ideas on why this may be best (the consultant said flexibility was the main reason to go this way).

 

Reasons I think this may not work well:

 

- the WTPart Number attribute becomes useless information at this point and would be best to just be hidden from view, unfortunately all the default search and display screens use Number

 

- multiple WTParts could be created for the same Item since the WTPart Number field is automatically unique for every new one created, but the Item/Part Number attribute would not have that control

 

- doing a WTPart to CAD Compare is very odd since the WTPart side shows the autogenerated number while the CAD side shows the actual part numbers

 

I could list more, but those are some of the main ones.

 

So what am I missing? My consultant says every one of their customers does it the way they are recommending to us.

Signature History Report in 10.1?

Anyone know if there is a "signature" report per CR in 10.1?

I'm looking for something that shows who voted, when they voted and what did that review. I only  care about those that are Approved:

CR ####

Role: Quality Engineer ; Approver : date stamp

Role: Sales                   :Approved:  date stamp

 

It would be great to show the Affected data that was on the CR also.

Document: #####1 Rev C

Document: #####3 Rev B

 

Pie in the sky? Do I need to make the report from scratch?

How to get role of current user?

I have created a button on right hand top side under quick links menu.That will allow the user's to change the constraints of attributes in certain types.But I have to allow user's with certain roles only can able to proceed and change the values.

 

Since the button is on quick links menu,I can't get the context,object and other details.Is there a way to get the role of that User.What API do I need to use inorder to get the role of particular user?Also I don't know the user's team and group.Is there any API?

Check in new EPMDocument with Windchill API's

Hi everyone,

 

I have a little problem and I really hope someone can help me with that.

 

I created an EPMDocument by using an expression robot. Now I would like to automatically check-in this EPMDocument into the commonspace via a Java code, so that not only the person who created the document can see it in his workspace but also everyone else. I tried to use a method robot (for check in)  for this, but that caused an error.

 

Can anyone please help me or point me in the right direction?

I'd really appreciate it.

HI,

I started recently to use Windchill 10.1.

One of my collegue asked me how can be brought back a previous for some parts or asembly.

In a file system they were able to delete any iteration that ProE saved.

In windchil in their workspace they can see only one file (no iterations in workspace)

Also using frames they were not happy with this solution usually when they save an assembly that save the subcomponents using frame will bring back both but they are inetersted to bring only the subcomponent and not teh assembly.

Are we doing something wrong using the Frames?

Workflow variable containing HTML tags are not rendered correctly in Windchill PDMLink 10.1

     I want a workflow variable to be showed a  link ,and open in a new window when click the link.

     So the value is "<a href='url' target='_blank'>displayName</a>" , and the value should be displayed as "displayName" on the workflow task page.But the real value "<a href='url' target='_blank'>displayName</a>" is displayed in Windchill PDMLink 10.1 M020.

     When clear cache and restart Windchill , that's ok . After some time , that's not ok again. The Windchill running 6 MethodServers and 3 BackgroundMethodServers.

How to Install Windchill on Windows (Host) with Oracle 10g on Solaris (VM)?

Hello.

I have recently installed Oracle 10g on my Virtual Machine (Solaris). But When I tried to login through root user again, the VM threw an error saying that the file system was full and enters maintenance mode.

 

Can I access the Oracle on my SOlaris VM through my host machine (Windows) and install Windchill on Windows?

 

Kindly help me.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Greetings,

We have an situations, where there is two names for the same file.. We have a two naming system since we have a back up system.  We have accidentally named a simple single part file two different names.  I am working in Windchill to change the name, but continue to get told the name is not unique.  This file is already checked in and we are doing the name change from windchill cabinets.  We even tried to change it to a goofy unique name to eliminate the message, but it still continues to fail.  The error message is "file name is not unique."

All Suggestions are welcomed.. what are we doing wrong?

Hello!

 

Does anyone happen to know how to get the file size of an EPMDocument or more precise the file size of the primary content?

I'm looking for the value presented under the Content Tab -> File Size for a particual version (see embedded image).

I would like to extract this value using Java.

Pseudo code below:

 

EPMDocument doc = getEPMDocument("filename", "1", "3");

String size = doc.getPrimaryContentSize();
