Hello Experts,

 

I am in the process of upgrading my WIndchill 8 system.

During that, I am preparing a clone of the production system by doing a Rehost.

During the rehost, I am executing the following script from WIndchill shell to rehost the LDAP, and I am getting the error:

Can anyone direct me to some information on how publishing works within Windchill PDMLink 10.1? We have recently upgraded from Intralink 3.4 and would liek to take advantage of some of the automatic features within Windchill.

 

Currently we export PDF's out of Creo and imbed them with .pvz, .sat and .igs files. These files are generally used to vendor informational purposes. I was wondering how much of that could be automated within Windchill?

 

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.

We're using Windchill 10.0 M030 with Wildfire 4 M220 (moving to Creo 2 this fall).  Currently I have the publisher in Windchill set to publish drawings as pdf files.  Works great, with one exception.  The title block cells of the drawing where I have &PTC_WM_REVISION are blank.  When the user has the drawing open in Pro/E it displays properly with the revision letter and when we "print" or save-as a pdf of the drawing from the Pro/E session it's fine.  For some reason the Windchill publication process drops it / doesn't recognize it.  Ideas? Is it something in the recipe settings or a config setting for the session of Pro/E that actually does the publication?

We are about to start creating WTParts and will be primarily generating them from Creo parts and assemblies. Our item/part numbering system is based on our ERP system, i.e. cad models and cad documents in Windchill use the 10 digit number from ERP as both the filename and number fields (with file extension... 1234.prt).

 

The question I have is how to Number our WTParts. Our consultant is recommending to leave the autonumber function in place and creat a new attribute field in the WTPart for the item/part number (which would then be manually populated with the corresponding ERP number).  I can come up with several reasons I do not like this approach, and very few ideas on why this may be best (the consultant said flexibility was the main reason to go this way).

 

Reasons I think this may not work well:

 

- the WTPart Number attribute becomes useless information at this point and would be best to just be hidden from view, unfortunately all the default search and display screens use Number

 

- multiple WTParts could be created for the same Item since the WTPart Number field is automatically unique for every new one created, but the Item/Part Number attribute would not have that control

 

- doing a WTPart to CAD Compare is very odd since the WTPart side shows the autogenerated number while the CAD side shows the actual part numbers

 

I could list more, but those are some of the main ones.

 

So what am I missing? My consultant says every one of their customers does it the way they are recommending to us.

Anyone know if there is a "signature" report per CR in 10.1?

I'm looking for something that shows who voted, when they voted and what did that review. I only  care about those that are Approved:

CR ####

Role: Quality Engineer ; Approver : date stamp

Role: Sales                   :Approved:  date stamp

 

It would be great to show the Affected data that was on the CR also.

Document: #####1 Rev C

Document: #####3 Rev B

 

Pie in the sky? Do I need to make the report from scratch?

I knocked something out quick.

I can insert a single document against an existing wtPart, but need to add multiple in a single operation instead of inserting multiple documents and then linking against the wtPart.

 

How can I insert multiple documents of the same type against a existing wtPart? Is this possible within the software as is, or do I require customization? If this needs customization, any pointers on API's would be great.

To all Windchill 10.1 admins,

 

Is it possible to have have the Creo View Adapters publish only vertain objects?

 

I have a CAD worker that is publishing fine it is just getting backed up with so many parts when users check-in large assemblies. Sometimes there are 1500-2000 parts. Ahy way to not publish what has already been published if I dont want to?

Following on from http://communities.ptc.com/message/190893#190893, we have been able to get the "containerName" attribute value set as a prefix for the autogenerated numbers for WTParts, by adding these lines to the OOTB OIR :

The extra Arg line shown above simply puts the "-" character in-between the string and the number (and we have tested that this works).

 

But now we need to trim the text string returned by StringConstant to only use the first 5 characters of that string, so we have tried combining it in several different ways with a SubString algorithm for example using a VarDef & VarRef pair, or more directly by wrapping the 3 lines shown above in green with the following additional lines :

But whichever way we do it gives errors.   Hence we have a few questions :

 

1. Is there a way to use the value of the "containerName" attribute as the first argument of the SubString algorithm ?  If so how ?

 

2. If instead we add a Global Attribute (text string) to the Product container type definition in Type & Attribute Manager, we can set this to be the 5-character prefix that we need simply by setting the correct attribute value on the Product details page.  We have tried this but got stuck again as the OIR cannot find or use the new attribute.  So what is the correct format to use to specify our custom attribute in the OIR instead of Attr id="containerName" ? 

 

3. We have tried using the Logical Identifier and the Display Name (which matches the Internal Name shown on Product-Attributes page) for the new attribute in the OIR instead of containerName, but these all gives a NullPointerException or other similar error.  Should we be using some sort of 'full path name' based on wt.pdmlink.PDMLinkProduct ? 

 

4. Are there some unwritten rules about how to name Global Attributes, add them to a container type and then use them in Doc or WTPart OIRs ?

Hi,

 

I have parts and assemblies that are in the Product structure in Windchill 10.0 that are actually supposed to be reused by everyone, so I would like to move them to the Library structure instead. The products are already used in other assemblies.

 

So how do I move them to the Library? When I try using Move on the part, I can only see the Product folders, not the Library folders so I'm stuck.

Hi All,

 

This is Windchill 10 question.

I have an attribute called "DesignControl" with logical name - "ext.abc.DesignControl". It has discrete set values in format like - Internal Name / Display Name as:

Design_A / Design A

Design_B / Design B

.....

 

For a document when I execute following code, I always get the value of the attribute to be - "Design_A" instead of "Design A" which is the display value.

We are using Windchill 9.1 M060 and I am trying to create a filter for a action that is embedded in a table displayed with the 3rd level menu (such as Affected Objects on a Change Request). My problem is this: I need to edit an attribute on the LINK class itself, not the other side object and not the main object. My edit is working just fine, but I need to hide the action if a different attribute on the link as a value.  For example. I have a link between a Change Request and another object.  On the link are 2 dates, a Scheduled Date and a Completed Date.  The edit for the link is so that I can add/change the Scheduled Date.  The edit itself is working just fine.  I need to disable the Edit action if the Completed Date has a value in it.  I've been trying both a Validator and a Filter (not at the same time) to see which one will work.  With either one, the context object is always the Change Request and they are only called once for the entire table where there may be 5 or 6 entries.  I need to have each entry in the table evaluated to determine if the edit is disabled for that one line.  Since there is only one action, I'm displaying the edit pencil icon in the table row.  Here is a snippet from my JSP to display the table.  The nmAction entry is the action to be enabled/disabled.

Hi All

I have several engineers in the field that need to pull large files from Windchill 300+mb in most cases.

They often find themselves on bad/slow/intermittent networks and the download mechanism within IE or Firefox doesn't cope very well with this.

 

Does anyone use a Download Manager for getting files out of Windchill?? Similar to the one that PTC has for downloading software

 

I've had a play with a couple but they seem to have an issue with the security on Windchill,

 

If you do use something like this and have a way to get the security working right please send a response or e-mail direct to me

I have a requirement to get all the parts which start with ABC- in a particular product called Sample.

 

Would be helpful if anyone can give a code/standalone program to get the parts from a product.

i tried searching and using Queryspec but could not get the result.

Does anyone know how to get rid of the popups that cover over the attribute boxes as you try to type in them?

Is there a setting in preferences to turn these off?

Hi All,

 

I make a Simple programe to which call the OOTB csv2xml functionality..

As you can see below, very simple program, it works well.. It creates xml files from csv files which are present at <WT_Home>\src\loadfiles\ 

 

but one issue is..

the csv2xml ootb utility does not exit and my remaining statements after this is not executing..

i want to executes the remaining staements after the execution of csv2xml utility..

ho i can do this..

Hi all,

 

I've just completed a new install of WC10.1 and discovered that when it starts, the servermanager starts 2 instances of methodserver.

Why is it doing this?

Is it a problem?

Can I stop this from happeing?

I am Exporting Multilevel BOM from Windchill by API.. it Works..

now i want to export all BOM's present in Whindchill, so first i need to be find out the "0" Level Items from Windchill.

 

Plese let me know how i can do this ?

Please refer to attached screen shot.

 

We are a hybrid microelectronics manufacturer, and we are trying to determine the criteria for making a determination between linear and power for the Hybrid Circuit Type, or the circuit function factor per MIL-HDBK-217. Solid criteria for this determination is critical because it has a significant affect on the results of the failure rate/MTBF calculations. Can anyone help us with a document that defines this, or provide us with any information that may help us make this determination?

Hi,

we have ProjectLink on Windchill 9.1 but I think it will be the same in Windchill 10.

 

How can one get a list of all objects that where shared to a project context?

 

I have tried to write a report in Query Builder. I have a project class, an EPM Doc class (we don't use Parts) bud I don´t know how to connect them togather.

Depends on Joins, report returns all EPM Docs (from all contexts)or nothing.

 

Can you help me find the right join, please?
